Hybrid Work Opportunity in the Saint John Region of the province
WorkSafeNB is seeking to fill a permanent position of Associate Legal Counsel. Reporting to the General Counsel Corporate Secretary, the Associate Legal Counsel is responsible for providing a full range of legal services to WorkSafeNB in all areas of the law as necessary. This includes providing advice, opinions, information, guidance and support on issues arising under the Workers' Compensation Act, the Firefighters' Compensation Act, the Workplace Health, Safety and Compensation Commission Act and privacy legislation. Associate Legal Counsel is responsible for undertaking and overseeing corporate issues as assigned by legal department staff and may represent WorkSafeNB before the Courts, as directed by General Counsel or Senior Legal Counsel.
Associate Legal Counsel supports the direction and management of external legal matters, including prosecutions under the Occupational Health and Safety Act, third-party litigation under the Workers' Compensation Act, and any matters before any level of court in New Brunswick, as directed by General Counsel or Senior Legal Counsel.

This is a hybrid position, and the successful candidate will be asked to work at head office in Saint John regularly based on the schedule. Your primary workspace will be from your in-home office, with the expectation of in-person meetings, for that reason, working from outside the province or country is not permissible.

Assessments are affected by the level of activities in the province's workplaces, as are the resulting claims. There are also substantial assets that ensure WorkSafeNB will be able to provide the ongoing benefits promised to injured workers through a wage loss recovery insurance system. These funds are invested in the financial markets and investment returns are subject to the ups and downs of the marketplace.
