Not only is the department responsible for managing over 18,000 kilometers of provincial highways, it also manages the planning, design and construction of hospitals, schools and other government buildings.
The Construction Branch manages the Department’s highway and bridge construction program which includes oversight of paving, chip seal, culvert, and bridge contracts. The Branch is also responsible to maintain, develop and implement the various construction specifications, standards, testing procedures, and ensure consistency in their application.
What you will do
Reporting to the Director, the successful candidate will be responsible for:
coordinating and chairing specification committee meetings to review, revise, and approve standard and particular specifications;
implementing and managing updates to the specification library, standards, and drawings, and communicate changes through training and guidance;
prioritizing and coordinating specification review projects and develop related manuals, procedures, and guidance documents;
overseeing CMOS program updates, system improvements, reporting processes, and user support and training;
producing and maintaining monthly CMOS reports by compiling data from multiple operational areas;
developing and maintaining the Employee Development Matrix to track required employee training and certifications;
reviewing, updating, and supporting internal policy manuals and guides across multiple disciplines;
maintaining the Construction Branch Shared Drive, including access management, file structure updates, security changes, archives, and related SOPs and guidelines.
Work environment:
Office location: Kings Place, 440 Kings Street, Fredericton.
Open office layout.
Standard hours of work: Monday – Friday.

Some travel within the province will be required.

Essential Qualifications:
Engineer 2:
University degree in Engineering with a minimum of five (5) years of work experience including three (3) years in the field of construction and/or maintenance.
Registered as a Professional Engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of New Brunswick (APEGNB) or Registered as a Professional Engineer with a Canadian regulatory body.
Valid Class 5 driver’s license as issued by the Province of New Brunswick.
An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.
Written and spoken competence in English is required. Please state your language capability.

Asset Qualifications:
Preference may be given to candidates that demonstrate the following assets:
skills and experience in road construction;
experience in road construction safety regulations.
Subject to the response to this competition, candidates may be required to demonstrate on their application one or more of the asset qualifications in addition to the essential qualifications in order to be given further consideration.

SALARY:
Engineer 2: $2,772.97 to $3,704.92 bi-weekly, based on 36.25 hours per week.
Based on Operational Requirements, hours may be designated to:
40 hours per week ($3,059.83 to $4,088.19 bi-weekly) or
45 hours per week ($3,442.31 to $4,599.21 bi-weekly)
Recognition and Retention Premium:
The recognition and retention premium is based on written confirmation of recognition and registration with a Canadian Regulatory body.
Fifteen (15) years but less than twenty (20) years – 1.0%
Twenty (20) years but less than twenty-five (25) years – 2.0%
Twenty-five (25) years – 3.0%
