Description

The Network Solution Designer is responsible for the analysis, design, and continuous enhancement of networking infrastructure services, ensuring alignment with organizational architecture standards and strategic objectives. This role provides expert-level network solution design for large-scale, enterprise, and industrial environments, supporting the full lifecycle of networking services and solutions. The Network Solution Designer translates business and operational requirements into resilient, scalable, and secure network designs through the effective application of industry best practices. The position requires broad technical expertise and the ability to exercise independent judgment in selecting methods, techniques, and technologies to deliver optimal networking solutions.

A day in the life:

When you join our Network Services team as a Network Solution Designer, you’ll have your finger on the pulse of the heartbeat of every single J.D. Irving company. Working in a fast-paced Cisco environment, a day in the life could see you researching, designing, consulting with Business IT, and planning the implementation of cutting-edge networking technologies for the Irving businesses. Whether it be a process network at a Sawmill or an overhaul of technology for Kent Building Supplies, there’s never a dull moment.



Responsibilities

· Collaborate with business IT representatives, architects, technical teams, and vendors to understand and stay ahead of the needs of end users and determine the appropriate network installation and hardware

· Provide communication, work direction, technical guidance, and training for high complexity activities and tasks within the Network Services team

· Maintain knowledge of trends, developments, and new technology related to networking infrastructure

· Provide subject matter expertise as the networking resource on a wide variety of internal and customer facing technology projects, supporting organizational standards

· Optimize existing systems related to performance and capacity and identify opportunities for improvement

· Research, understand and design based on modern security standards

· Develop and maintain detailed documentation for new and existing networking solution



Qualifications

· University degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline; relevant industry certifications (e.g., CCDP) are considered an asset

· 10+ years of experience in senior technical roles, with demonstrated expertise in designing and evolving enterprise-scale networking solutions

· Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate complex business and operational requirements into effective technical designs

· Proven ability to exercise independent judgment in selecting methods, technologies, and approaches to deliver optimal solutions

· Data- and process-driven mindset, with a strong focus on continuous improvement and adherence to industry best practices

· Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively across teams and functions

· Ability to build professional credibility, influence stakeholders, and establish a strong technical reputation within the organization

· Effective communication skills, with the ability to engage, present, and interact confidently with management and senior

 

Bonus (nice to have):

· Industry certification such as CCNA, CCNP, CCIE or equivalent

· Able to obtain Government of Canada security clearances

· Security or IT service management certifications (ie. CISA, ITIL)

· Experience leading and supporting organizational change iniciatives

· Process improvement experience (Lean, Sis Sigma, Yellow/Green Belt or similar)
