As an Occupational Health Nurse Student, you will support Irving Oil’s Health Services team in delivering programs and services that promote employee wellbeing, workplace safety, and basic health monitoring. You’ll gain hands-on experience in clinical settings, assist with health assessments, and contribute to education and injury management initiatives.
The Health Services team is composed of professionals dedicated to supporting the total health and wellbeing of Irving Oil employees. Through compliance with legislation, company policies, and professional standards, the team ensures employees are fit for work, managed through illness or injury, and empowered through personal health education. Services include workplace accommodations, occupational health assessments, alcohol and drug programs, and disability management. The team plays a vital role in maintaining a safe and productive workforce across the organization.
Responsibilities:
Observe and assist in clinic operations, supporting medicals and health assessments based on scope and experience level
Contribute to injury management and disability support programs, including documentation and follow-up
Participate in health profiling activities such as glucose, cholesterol, height, weight, blood pressure and risk factor screening
Assist in preparing and delivering employee education presentations (e.g., first aid, epinephrine, Narcan refreshers)
Receive one-on-one nursing mentorship and contribute to records management and reporting
Your Skills:
Clear and professional communication skills, both written and verbal
Strong public speaking and presentation abilities
Research and investigative skills to support clinical and policy-related tasks
Attention to detail in documentation and records management
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a clinical setting
Your Experience:
Currently enrolled in a Bachelor of Nursing program
Must have completed at least one year of post-secondary education and be returning to school
Experience level and scope of responsibilities will vary based on year of study and clinical background
