WorkSafeNB is looking to hire a permanent full-time Bilingual written and spoken Review Officer. There will be times when on-site presence is required across the province of New Brunswick for in person meetings. For these reasons, working from outside the province or country is not permissible.
Under the direction of the Chief Review Officer, the Review Officer carries out the legislated review mandate under the Workplace Health, Safety and Compensation Commission and Workers' Compensation Appeals Tribunal (WHSCC and WCAT Act). The legislated review mandate is the first level of appeal that is required under the legislation and must occur to advance an appeal to the external tribunal. The Review Officer ensures that all reviews of decisions or orders requested under the Act are conducted in accordance with the Act and WorkSafeNB's administrative law obligations and align with service delivery standards.
Salary And Hours of Work:
• Hours of work are those required to perform the assigned tasks but shall not be less than 35 hours per week, 7 per day. Organization hours are Monday to Friday between 8:00-5:00 PM. This role may require you to work outside of these hours based on operational needs.
• The pay scale for this position is $92,248.80 to $108,528.00 annually.
• Contributing to Decision Review Office (DRO) operational requirements by fulfilling the legislative obligation to carry out independent reviews of decisions, orders, or rulings made under the WHSCC & WCAT Act, the Workers' Compensation (WC) Act, and Firefighters' Compensation (FC) Act at the written request of a person directly affected by the matter in dispute.
• Adjudicating on the Decision Review Application by ensuring that reviews proceed in a timely fashion and are review ready so that client needs are met.
• Discharging WorkSafeNB's legislative and legal obligations for the first level of appeal by ensuring that all reviews of decisions or orders requested are conducted in accordance with the WHSCC & WCAT Act and align with service delivery standards.
• Providing direction, instruction, and/or coaching t on individual decision reviews.
• Collaborating with stakeholders to drive engagement with internal and external stakeholders. The Review Officer contributes to a feedback loop with a collaborative network of stakeholders to drive and promote organizational alignment and improvement related to legislative interpretation, policy application, evidence standards, and awareness of impacts from decision-making and reviews.
• A bachelor's degree in business administration, public administration, law, political science or a relevant field.
• Must have 5 years of progressive experience in complex decision making and/or decision reviewing with preference for experience in workers' compensation, appeals, or administrative tribunals. (e.g. Some examples of WorkSafeNB positions that are considered relevant are Case Managers, Claims Adjudicators, WCAT Standing Representatives, Technical Coaches, and Policy Analysts).
• Knowledge of compensation and safety legislation, adjudication processes and administrative tribunals is required.
• Certification or willingness to complete professional development from the Foundation of Administrative Justice (FOAJ), the Canadian Institute for the Administration of Justice (CIAJ) and/or the Council of Canadian Administrative Tribunals (CCAT).
