The Opportunity

WorkSafeNB is looking to hire a permanent Bilingual written and spoken Senior Translator.

Reporting to the Manager, Client and Government Relations, the Senior Translator is responsible for overseeing both internal and external Translation Services activities. This includes managing translation projects, assigning tasks, conducting reviews, and translating a variety of materials, such as legal, technical, and corporate documents, from English to French and French to English. The Senior Translator ensures quality control across all translations, meeting deadlines, and maintaining consistency and accuracy in all translated content. Additionally, the role involves managing translation statistics, acting as a liaison with internal clients, and coordinating with external service providers, particularly for the production of the WorkSafeNB Annual Report. 
 

Salary And Hours Of Work:

  • Hours of work are those required to perform the assigned tasks but shall not be less than 35 hours per week, 7 per day. Monday to Friday between 8:00-5:00 PM.
  • The pay scale for this position is $ 74,327.23 to $ 81,534.43. CUPE 1866 employees start at Step 1 of the pay band for the position appointment.
     

Responsibilities


  • Coordinate the end-to-end translation process by assigning translation projects to both internal and external translators based on expertise and availability.
  • Review materials submitted for translation, including emails, notes, forms, legal and medical documents, and technical manuals, to ensure specialized content is accurately translated.
  • Monitor the quality of all translated materials, checking for accuracy, consistency, and alignment with required terminology, and making necessary edits for clarity, style, and contextual accuracy.
  • Coordinate with external translators by providing resources, guidelines, and clear instructions on project scope and deadlines to ensure accurate and timely delivery.
  • Ensure that all translation tasks are completed within the required timelines, handling any challenges or delays that may arise, and making adjustments to meet deadlines without compromising quality.
  • Review and approve final translations to ensure they meet organizational standards for linguistic, legal, and technical accuracy before delivery or posting. Translate a variety of materials from English to French and vice versa, including correspondence, advertising, website content, publications, legal documents, reports, and technical documents.
  • Provide reports on translation activities to track progress, analyze workload, and ensure timely delivery.
  • Proofread and edit materials to ensure clarity, consistency, accuracy, and alignment with organizational guidelines before distribution or posting.
  • Provide translation assistance and guidance on French terminology to staff, ensuring proper usage and context, and make edits to existing documents as requested to ensure accuracy, clarity, and alignment with organizational standards.
  • Participate in department meetings to collaborate on projects, address translation-related issues, and contribute to decision-making processes.
  • Handle tasks efficiently to meet tight deadlines while maintaining high-quality work. Other duties may be assigned as needed or based on operational requirements.
     

Qualifications


  • A university degree in Translation, Linguistics, or a related field. An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of professional translation experience, specializing in legal, medical, technical, or government materials.
  • Proven ability to accurately translate a broad range of documents in both English and French, consistently applying specialized terminology while maintaining linguistic precision.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, PowerPoint, SharePoint secure site, and Fusion (translation memory software) to efficiently handle documents, communications, and workflow processes.
  • Bilingual in English and French, with advanced understanding of grammar, syntax, and style in both languages to deliver high-quality translations and ensure effective client communication.
  • Strong grasp of translation techniques, including legal, technical, and corporate terminology, ensuring accuracy and consistency across various materials.
  • Experienced in coordinating translation projects, including task assignment, progress tracking, performance reporting, and maintaining quality standards and timelines.
  • Well-versed in confidentiality protocols and professional ethics in translation, particularly when handling sensitive legal and medical documents.
  • Demonstrated experience in coordinating translation projects, including task assignment, team collaboration, timeline oversight, and performance tracking through translation statistics.
  • Skilled in translation quality control processes, ensuring that all deliverables meet organizational and industry standards for accuracy, consistency, and language integrity.

Written and spoken competence in English and in French is required.

WorkSafeNB

Organization

WorkSafeNB administers no-fault workplace accident and disability insurance for employers and their workers, funded solely through assessments on employers. All employers having three or more workers are obligated to obtain compensation coverage.

WorkSafeNB is committed to preventing workplace injuries and illness through education and enforcement of the Occupational Health and Safety Act.

WorkSafeNB is administered by a board of directors consisting of the chairperson, a vice-chairperson, the president and CEO (non-voting member), the chairperson of the Appeals Tribunal (non-voting member), five members representing workers, and five members representing employers. Other than the president & CEO and the chairperson of the Appeals Tribunal, members of the board of directors serve part-time.

Assessments are affected by the level of activities in the province's workplaces, as are the resulting claims. There are also substantial assets that ensure WorkSafeNB will be able to provide the ongoing benefits promised to injured workers through a wage loss recovery insurance system. These funds are invested in the financial markets and investment returns are subject to the ups and downs of the marketplace.
