The Opportunity

• Researches, assesses and disseminates external funding opportunities to faculty and assists with the application processes. Maintains up-to-date knowledge of faculty research areas and interests.
• Supports internal grant proposals including meeting with applicants, tracking individual grant winners' progress over several years, and measuring impact and outcomes.
• Assists the Associate Vice-President (Research) with outreach initiatives, including integrating research content into student recruitment and retention initiatives, leveraging research achievements for fundraising initiatives, and coordinating the office's social media initiatives.
• Maintains detailed records of all internal and external grants awarded including reporting deadlines, arranges transfers of funds to other institutions, monitors releases of funds, and submits quarterly funding achievement reports to the Associate Vice-President (Research).
• Serves as a point of contact for the ORS with research administration organizations such as the Canadian Association of Research Administrators and, the Secretariat on Responsible Conduct of Research, and advises the Associate Vice-President on research policy matters.
• Acts as the contact person for external granting agencies; liaises with Tri-Council program officers; participates in related committees and working groups; assists with and/or delivers relevant workshops.
• Acts as the Industry Liaison Officer with the Springboard Atlantic Network, supporting research that has commercial or economic potential. Helps researchers form partnerships with external groups and helps draft and review research contracts and agreements. Actively works to meet or exceed annual metrics. Processes all Springboard claims and reports and attends Springboard Network meetings.
• Prepares student job descriptions, reviews student applications, interviews candidates, conducts orientation for student employees, and supervises day to day work of student employees.
• Performs other related duties as required.

• A minimum of three years' experience providing administrative support in a professional office environment, with direct experience in a post-secondary environment considered an asset.
• A university bachelor's degree is required.
• A master's degree is an asset and may also be considered in lieu of the experience requirement.
• Knowledge of the federal and provincial academic funding opportunities and application / submission processes.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; excellent written communication skills; excellent public speaking and presentation skills; professional manner and ability to proceed in confidential and collaborative situations is key.
• Ability to provide clear and accurate advice.
• Editing experience and demonstrated ability to pay attention to detail.
• Familiar with formulating budgets and timelines.
• Ability to organize and work independently in a busy office environment and to manage multiple projects simultaneously (project management skills).
• Experience using a variety of software applications (e.g., Apple and Microsoft Office products) and maintaining websites.
• CARA Certificate in Research Administration considered an asset.
