DescriptionThe position involves coordinating urgent calls and dispatching assistance in real time. The successful candidate will report to the Manager of Dispatch Services and will dispatch calls and enter calls into a computer-based system according to specific directions and guidelines. The successful candidate will work independently and exercise tact, judgement, and discretion. The ability to work in a stressful environment and prioritize multiple tasks is required.
Qualifications Required:
- Minimum High School Diploma, supplemented by coursework in business and social sciences, along with one (1) year of relevant experience.
- Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
- Ability to communicate in both official languages (English and French) at minimum of the intermediate plus level is required.
- Must be able to pass a security clearance, psychological assessment and hearing test.
- Successful completion of CritiCall pre-employment testing.
- Be physically and mentally prepared to work 12-hour rotating shifts. Including days, nights, weekends and holidays.
What You’ll Do:
- Receive and respond to emergency and non-emergency calls via phone and radio. Enter and update all calls accurately in our computer-aided dispatch (CAD) system.
- Enters, retrieves, updates and queries accurate and timely data within CAD, CPIC or PORS systems.
- Efficiently dispatch emergency vehicles in accordance with established protocols, ensuring prompt response times.
- Monitor, oversee and respond to alarm calls and take the appropriate action where required.
- Provide accurate information to the public while maintaining a calm and professional demeanor.
- Prepare detailed reports and summaries for departmental review as required.
- Work closely with fellow dispatchers, emergency personnel and public agencies to foster a cohesive team environment.
What You’ll Bring:
- Strong verbal and written communication abilities, with proficiency in both official languages English and French (Intermediate level or higher).
- Proficient with computer systems and software, including Windows. Previous experience with CAD or dispatch applications is considered an asset.
- Keyboarding speed of 50+ wpm is essential.
- Ability to multitask under constant pressure and in a high stress environment.
- Familiarity with the geography of Fredericton, Oromocto and surrounding area is advantageous.
- Demonstrated capability to make quick, logical decisions in high pressure situations.
- Demonstrate ability and dexterity in handling call taking and dispatching functions using computer-aided dispatch, multi-line telephone and radio communications.
- Ability to work in a team environment having a personal commitment to the teamwork concept. Maintaining a flexible attitude, contributing positively to the operation and have good interpersonal skills.
