Standard Work Hours: Mon - Fri | 8:15 am - 4:30 pm | 36.25 hours per week. Hours will vary depending on the demands of field season.

Salary Range: $50,149- $62,686 per annum

YOUR FOCUS

Reporting to the New Brunswick Aquatic Ecosystem Study (NBAES, formerly MAES) Project Managers, the Intermediate Science Technician works closely with the senior scientific staff and faculty members of NBAES and is responsible for assisting in the planning and management of field studies, conducting research work, maintaining research equipment, analyzing data and in the preparation of technical reports.

• Assist intermediate/senior technicians in completion of field and laboratory work.
• Lead and mentor undergraduate student teams.
• Train Junior Science Technicians and undergraduate summer student hires.
• Lead field teams in demanding situations such as working in near proximity with our Industry Partner and their facilities.
• Follow applicable data collection and safety protocols.
• Prepare draft technical reports including the analyses and manipulation of data, generation of graphs and figures, and description of findings.
• Perform basic technical maintenance of research equipment used in the collection of field data and laboratory analyses. Prepare, calibrate, and configure gear for use by others.
• Identify need and assist with the procurement of necessary chemicals and supplies for field equipment, such as ethanol and calibration fluids.
• Develop and manage inventory lists of equipment and supplies including vehicles and boats.
• Organize field crews for each day, confirm work locations, ensure gear is working and ready for use, and train/monitor that data is collected properly.
• Assist with planning sample collection and equipment needs for field projects.

WHAT YOU BRING

• 2-year Diploma in a relevant science-based technical discipline, or 4-year science-based degree in a related discipline.
• Minimum of 3 years at the Junior Science Technician level or equivalent experience.
• Required licensing and experience-based competency in handling boats and trucks in a professional setting.
• Experience with field data collection, data entry, data QA/QC, data analysis, and report writing.

Additional Strengths

• First Aid, WHMIS.
• Calibration of typical field/lab gear such as sondes and meters, or the ability to learn on their own.
