The Opportunity

Reporting to the Director of Athletics and Recreation, the Sports Information Officer creates web, social media, and digital content and completes assignments related to sports information requirements for varsity athletics and campus recreation. The individual contributes to the mission of the University through the development and dissemination of communications materials for internal/external audiences. The position will liaise with the Athletics Marketing and Event Coordinator, varsity team coaches, and other staff.

What you'll do

Responsibilities

  • Develops and produces Athletics and Recreation content (copy, editing, video, photo).
  • Manages website content (www.gotommies.ca) and social media interfaces.
  • Manages student sports information writers, and edits their work as required.
  • Assists in the organization of special events and performs other duties as required.

What you'll need

Qualifications

  • A university degree with a major in Journalism and/or Communications.
  • Strong communication skills and proficiency in web and digital software.
  • Experience with and/or an understanding of varsity athletics at the university level.
  • Creativity and understanding of content management.
  • Ability to research, plan, capture, organize, and effectively present information.
  • Initiative and the ability to organize and complete assignments to deadline independently.

Working Conditions:

  • Frequent need to concentrate when composing copy and researching stories.
  • Regular requirement to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
  • Irregular work hours (evenings and weekends) and varied work week is required due to the nature of university athletics and other job responsibilities.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities.
