Position Title: Strategic Opportunities Manager
Location: TBD
Terms: Contract - Renewable as required
Salary: Based on Education and Experience. Salary Range ($60,000-$70,000)
Reports to: Director of Programs and Finance

Mawiw Council Inc. is one of approximately 80 tribal councils in Canada. It is a non-profit corporation governed by a Board of Directors composed of the Chiefs of the partnering First Nations: Neqotkuk, Elsipogtog, and Esgenoôpetitj. As a tribal council, Mawiw is mandated to provide capacity-building services to its three partnering First Nations. Our organization receives core funding from Indigenous Services Canada (ISC) and project-based funding from a number of federal, provincial and other sources.

Position Overview
The Strategic Opportunities Manager leads initiatives for economic growth by scoping and developing partnership opportunities, developing proposals and securing funding, mentoring staff, and implementing strategic goals to guide long-term economic development for the benefit of Mawiw communities.

What you'll do

Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership & Economic Development
· Lead the design and implementation of a comprehensive economic development strategy that supports sustainable growth
· Identify, assess, and advance new economic development and investment opportunities
· Develop short-, medium-, and long-term strategic growth plans, including priority sectors and initiatives
· Evaluate the feasibility, risks, and market potential of proposed opportunities

Partnerships & Stakeholder Engagement
· Build and maintain strong relationships with partners, investors, governments, and community stakeholders
· Represent Mawiw at conferences, workshops, and events to promote opportunities and strengthen networks
· Report on progress, outcomes, and opportunities to leadership and community stakeholders

Program Development & Funding
· Lead the development of funding proposals and business cases to secure new opportunities
· Mentor and support staff in identifying and responding to funding opportunities
· Oversee the growth and development of economic programs within Mawiw

Operations & Performance
· Develop and manage operational and project budgets
· Monitor, evaluate, and report on program and project performance
· Maintain accurate records and ensure accountability in reporting processes
· Participate in program evaluations and continuous improvement initiatives

Advisory & Support
· Provide strategic advice and guidance on economic development matters
· Support internal teams and leadership with analysis, planning, and decision-making

What you'll need

Qualifications

  • Must possess post-secondary level education in business or a related field with a minimum of 5 years of strategic experience
  • Knowledge of First Nations culture and values
  • This role requires flexibility to travel between locations as needed
  • Highly motivated, energetic and creative problem-solving
  • Solid analytical, problem-solving, and conflict resolution skills
  • Self-directed and ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Must have a Valid driver's license and access to a car
  • Ability to work under pressure and deal with a constantly changing work environment
  • Ability to organize and prioritize a wide variety of assignments using independent judgement and minimal supervision
  • The physical location of this position will be based on the candidate's place of residence.
