Reporting to the Manager of Fredericton Capital Region Tourism or designate, the Travel Trade & Media Coordinator is responsible for promoting, selling, and positioning the Fredericton Capital Region as a compelling tourism destination in domestic, U.S., and international markets.
This role serves as the lead for travel trade development, travel media relations, and influencer engagement, working closely with tourism operators, travel intermediaries, media, content creators, and government partners. The incumbent supports destination marketing efforts that drive visitation, increase media exposure, and generate economic impact for the region.
The position requires a high degree of professionalism, sound judgment, and strong relationship‑building skills. The successful candidate must be comfortable representing Fredericton Tourism in a variety of settings, including travel trade marketplaces, media visits, industry events, and partner engagements, which may involve occasional evening and weekend work and travel.
Strong organization, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities are essential, along with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively within the Tourism Division.
Qualifications Required:
- Post-secondary degree or diploma in tourism, marketing, communications, business administration, or a related field.
- Minimum five (5) years of experience in tourism, destination marketing, travel trade, media relations, or a related field.
- Demonstrated experience working with travel trade partners and/or media.
- Experience coordinating media visits, FAM tours, or influencer programs is a strong asset.
- Experience with marketing collateral, content development, and stakeholder communications.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
What You’ll Do:
Travel Trade Development & Sales
- Promote, sell, and develop the Fredericton Capital Region as a tourism destination to tour operators, travel agents, wholesalers, receptive tour operators, and other travel trade partners.
- Represent Fredericton Capital Region Tourism at regional, national, and international travel trade marketplaces, sales missions, and industry events.
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with travel trade intermediaries and key tourism partners.
- Coordinate and host travel trade familiarization (FAM) tours in collaboration with Tourism New Brunswick and local tourism operators.
- Develop and implement market-specific sales and marketing plans aligned with divisional priorities.
- Maintain accurate records within CRM and contact databases, tracking communications, appointments, and outcomes.
- Collect, analyze, and report on tourism performance data, including group tour room nights, visitation trends, and market results.
Travel Media Relations
- Serve as a primary point of contact for travel media, including journalists, editors, broadcasters, and freelance travel writers.
- Proactively pitch story ideas that highlight the Fredericton Capital Region’s experiences, events, culture, and tourism assets.
- Coordinate, host, and support media FAM visits, ensuring a positive and professional experience for visiting media.
- Respond to media inquiries in a timely and effective manner.
- Track, evaluate, and report on earned media coverage, impressions, and advertising value.
- Work collaboratively with Destination Canada, Tourism New Brunswick, and tourism partners on joint media initiatives.
Influencer & Content Creator Engagement
- Identify, evaluate, and work with travel influencers and content creators whose audiences align with Fredericton’s target markets.
- Coordinate influencer visits, itineraries, and deliverables in collaboration with internal teams and tourism partners.
- Ensure influencer partnerships align with brand values, marketing objectives, and performance expectations.
- Track and report on influencer campaign results, reach, and overall value.
Marketing Collateral, Partnerships & Support
- Support the development and updating of tourism marketing materials such as profile sheets, themed itineraries, newsletters, and group travel resources.
- Build and maintain effective working relationships with tourism operators, cultural organizations, event organizers, and stakeholders.
- Collaborate with internal marketing and operations teams to align travel trade and media efforts with broader destination marketing initiatives.
Administration, Planning & Professional Representation
- Plan, coordinate, implement, and evaluate assigned projects with minimal supervision.
- Assist with budgeting and financial tracking for travel trade, media, and influencer initiatives.
- Prepare reports, proposals, and summaries to support evaluation and decision-making.
- Represent Fredericton Capital Region Tourism in a professional, positive, and consistent manner.
- Perform related duties as assigned. Responsibilities may evolve to reflect changing divisional priorities.
What You’ll Bring:
- Strong knowledge of destination marketing, travel trade sales, media relations, and tourism industry practices.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and relationship-building skills (verbal and written).
- Ability to communicate in both official languages is considered an asset.
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple projects at once.
- Comfortable working independently while contributing as part of a collaborative team.
- Proficient in standard office software, CRM systems, and reporting tools.
