What you'll do

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Manager, Financial Planning and Analysis, the Lead, Financial Planning Analyst plays a key role in coordinating and assisting in the development of budgets and the ongoing monitoring of financial performance. This position provides advanced support to Financial Planning Analysts, including guidance on complex costing models such as staffing complements, budget data models, program cost per student, and escalates issues as required.

In this role the incumbent focuses on improving budgeting and financial analysis processes while mentoring and coaching team members to strengthen skills in budget preparation, financial analysis, and financial review.

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

LEADERSHIP

  • Provide feedback to the Manager on the evaluation as well as employee development and performance management in accordance with the College's policies and reflecting our values.
  • Supports the implementation of work objectives outlined in the Financial Planning and Analysis Team work plan that aligns with achieving departmental and organizational goals.
  • Identifying and proposing process improvements which promote operational efficiencies in the unit and across the College.
  • Providing leadership, coaching and support to employees.

FINANCIAL REPORTING

  • Developing and producing detailed comparative quarterly financial reports for Budget Managers.
  • Prepares and enters journal entries as needed.
  • Prepare reports to be included in the Business Plan and the Annual Report.
  • Assists in producing quarterly financial reports to be presented to the Audit Committee and Board for review.
  • Produce quarterly and year end reports for GNB Department of Finance - Forecasts, Variance Analysis of Budget, Revenue, Expenses.
  • Completes reconciliation of Fusion's General Ledger to ensure it balances to NBCC's internal financial reporting system.

ANALYSIS OF INCOME STATEMENT AND BALANCE

  • Supports reasonable review of quarterly revenue and expense projections to year end for accuracy and completeness based on ongoing assumptions.
  • Assists in the review of variance analysis for Revenue and Expense accounts to ensure they are reflected accurately.
  • Assist in the review of quarterly account reconciliations to ensure accurate and verified balances in support of effective financial reporting and internal controls.
  • Analyze cost recovery reports for Professional & Part Time Learning and Apprenticeship.
  • Analyze Ancillary gross margins and inventory reconciliation.

MANAGE YEAR END PROCESS

  • Coordinates the completion of the year end checklists amongst the Finance staff to ensure that year end procedures have been followed.
  • Assists in the review and audit of General Ledger (GL) accounts to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Provide additional information as required for year-end analysis and assisting with Auditor questions.
  • Support implementation of action items identified in the Auditor's year-end Report presented to the Audit Committee.
  • Assisting in producing Balance Sheet, Income Statement, Statement of Changes, Statement of Cash Flows and Lead Sheets.

Qualifications

Education & Experience:

  • Degree or diploma in Business Administration or Commerce with a major in accounting.
  • Chartered Professional Accounting designation (CPA) required.
  • Related experience must include working in a deadline driven environment; with enterprise resource planning financial systems; generating annual financial statements and related discussion and analysis documentation; providing and auditing financial reporting for accuracy and completeness for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Advance proficiency in MS Word and Excel.
  • Oracle Fusion experience would be considered an asset.

  • Ability to meet deadlines and work under competing pressures and expectations
  • Candidates must possess a valid Driver's License as travel will be required.
  • Preference may be given to candidates who have experience working in a post-secondary environment.
