Description

The City of Fredericton’s Department of Corporate Services is seeking a skilled and detail‑oriented Pension Administrator to join its Compensation and Benefits team.

Reporting to the Team Lead of Compensation & Benefits, the successful candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the City’s pension program, ensuring accuracy, legislative compliance, and timely processing.

 

Qualifications required: 

  • Post-secondary education (diploma, certificate, or degree) with coursework or training in pension/benefits. 
  • Minimum of three (3) years of pension administration and/or pension processing experience.
  • Intermediate or advanced knowledge of MS Office, with strong Excel skills.
  • RPA or CEBS certification, or willing to complete within the first year of employment.
  • Strong understanding of pension legislation and best practices, with the ability to keep management informed of relevant updates.

An equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered.

 

Work Experience desired:

  • Experience with ADP WFN (Canada).
  • Experience working with external vendors and financial institutions.
  • Knowledge of payroll and HR policies.
  • Experience in a unionized environment with multiple collective agreements.
  • Experience administering multiple pension plans.
  • Ability to communicate in both official languages (English and French) is considered a strong asset.


 

What You'll do:

  • Participate in the ongoing activities of the Compensation and Benefits unit, ensuring timely and accurate payment processing in compliance with provincial legislation. 
  • Complete pension payroll maintenance in ADP.
  • Meet with retiring employees to explain pension entitlements, retirement options, and retirement allowances.
  • Prepare and process pension remittances.
  • Maintain employee pension data interfaces and ensure data integrity.
  • Support pension plan valuation data processes, including SRP and Fire/Police plans. 
  • Provide retiree data for annual HST filings to Finance.
  • Reconciliation of Regional Service Commission contributions and breakdown to Finance.
  • Process bi-weekly Group RRSP contributions and remittances.
  • Provide employee data for annual renewal of AD&D and EFAP contracts.
  • Complete pension estimates and final calculations for retiring or terminating employees.
  • Manage Group RRSP data requests and contracts.
  • Manage pensioner benefit billings and plan maintenance, including benefit premiums.
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders, including but not limited to managers, employees, financial institutions, service providers, and government agencies.
  • Support crosstraining and backup coverage within the Compensation and Benefits team.
  • Provide backup support to Senior Payroll Clerks for pension and benefits enrolments.
  • Participate in the Benefits Advisory Committee or alternate committee for Benefit Renewal.
  • Participate in projects development and perform other Compensation and Benefits duties as assigned.
