DescriptionThe City of Fredericton’s Department of Corporate Services is looking for a Temporary - Senior Clerk for their Compensation and Benefits section.

Reporting to the Team Lead of Compensation & Benefits, the successful candidate will be responsible for providing outstanding levels of service to all employees of the City of Fredericton and liaising with the City’s payroll service providers.
The work can be challenging and demanding, especially considering the City of Fredericton has 6 bargaining units, a non-bargaining group and Council all with various policies and collective agreements. To be successful, you must be well organized to meet competing deadlines, have strong listening and communication skills, take initiative, and be able to work both independently and as part of a team.
Qualifications required:
- Post-secondary education (diploma, certificate, or degree) that includes payroll education and training.
- Minimum of two (2) years of payroll experience (timekeeping is not a sufficient skill for duties in this role).
An equivalent combination of training and experience will be acceptable.

- Strong team player approach is essential contributing to the smooth and effective delivery of services to the organization and its employees.
- Experience working with highly confidential and sensitive information, exercising discretion and professionalism at all times.
- Understanding of pension plans and the critical importance of accuracy and compliance in pension administration.
- Working knowledge and/or experience with Oracle Fusion and ADP payroll systems is preferred.
- National Payroll Institute Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) certification is considered an asset.
- Ability to communicate in both official languages is considered an asset.
What You'll do:
- Process the City’s bi‑weekly payroll accurately and on schedule.
- Prepare, submit, and reconcile all required payroll remittances and supporting documentation, including statutory withholdings, union dues, and other employee deductions.
- Ensure compliance with federal and provincial payroll legislation and organizational policies.
- Prepare and issue Records of Employment (ROEs) for submission to Service Canada in a timely manner.
- Maintain accurate payroll records and respond to payroll‑related inquiries as required.
- Perform related duties as assigned, in support of the City and legislative safety objectives and requirements.

Perks:
- Competitive salary $2,533.01 - $2,767.89 bi-weekly (Level I CUPE Local 1709 Salary Scale).
- Benefits Spending Allowance: $167.52 bi-weekly.
- 20 hours of work per week, flexible during work hours Monday to Friday, 8:15 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
- This is a six-month contract.
